can increase your website traffic and of course popularity. Some are
extremely dubious but very cheap and without doubt will inflict long
term damage to your online business, you won't know the real cost until
long after you have paid the 'Google expert' that advised you!
Such dodgy techniques are called 'Black
Hat Internet Marketing Tactics'. The opposite is called White
Hat Internet Marketing. Most Wild West movies show the goodies wearing
white hats.

Basic website promotion should always start with page optimisation
, this is the tweaking of website pages including meta tags optimization,
proper keyword optimization ( Keyword Weight & Density) etc . Another
term for this is SEO (search engine optimization) (note I keep shifting
from z to s and vice versa).
Optimising your web pages won't necessarily change your actual website
design unless the page is designed so badly that it is impossible to
leave it as it is. Generally the website appearance doesn't change,
just the coding and perhaps a slight alteration to the text for marketing
and SEO purposes.
The next thing to do is build quality in-bound links. This can be done in many ways; Banner Links, Blogs, Articles, Social Networking and so on. It can however be the down fall of many a website if done wrongly. Beware of 'Link Farms', although they are cheap, they will cost you dearly in the long run. Black Hat Internet Marketers will offer you a 'magic' link building service that is guaranteed to drive untold amounts of traffic to your website.
Image Hundreds of thousands or millions and millions of visitors all flocking to YOUR website. (yeah right)
You'll even see the vast increase in traffic according to stats and reports but it won't put money in the bank and much of it will be software robots and spiders. The links will be irrelevant to your business and quality search engines will see too many hits too soon, so it will be obvious that you are manipulating the system.
